JOB CLASSIFICATION: Professional

QUALIFICATIONS: Desired Education, Experience, and/or Certifications:

  • Advanced Degree in CyberSecurity, or equivalent
  • Employment or consultant in education
  • Prior experience in CyberSecurity
  • Security Certification (Security+, CISSP or equivalent)
  • Familiarity with Software Development & Open Source Security Tooling

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree in Business, or equivalent experience
  • Willingness to study for and sit for training(s) and security certification(s) as recommended by leadership
  • Some office hours required

Desired Technical Skills:

  • Windows, MAC and Chrome Desktop
  • Google Applications Experience
  • Microsoft Office 365 Experience
  • Familiarity with Linux Operating Systems
  • Understanding of Networking Concepts and Design

REPORTS TO:

  • Reports directly to the NCNE Cybersecurity Director

REQUIRED RESPONSIBILITIES AND JOB TASKS:

  • Build and maintain relationships with all member ESUs and school districts within the NCNE;
  • Satisfy obligations as outlined in any currently awarded grant. For 2023-24, this includes
    • Develop network templates, maps, backups and restoration capabilities
    • Conduct cyber risk assessments, vulnerability scans, and penetration tests
    • Test configuration of devices, security controls, and vulnerabilities of organizational assets
  • Develop templatable solutions for ESUs and school districts in the following areas:
    • Risk Assessment,
    • Vulnerability Scanning, 
    • Penetration Testing
  • As requested by a member ESU:
    • Attend ESU LAN Manager/Technology Coordinator meetings;
    • Troubleshoots network performance, network security issues and analyzes network traffic; ○    Participates in incident response, computer forensics, data preservation and investigations related to network breaches and/or unauthorized access of data; ○    Supports regular and special reporting and analysis, including reports of vulnerabilities, risks, control deficiencies, remediation strategies, and performance metrics; ○    Provides security related technical support to users and assists with the research, testing, evaluation, and implementation of security tools, systems, and processes; ○    Maintains, monitors, and modifies security tools, systems and processes, and automates wherever feasible using programming languages such as Python or Powershell.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge:

  • Applicable information security administration, management, governance, and compliance principles, practices, laws, rules and regulations;
  • Cybersecurity standard frameworks, controls, technology, and solutions;
  • Information technology systems and processes, network infrastructure, data architecture, data processes, and protocols;
  • Incident response management;
  • Risk assessment methodology;
  • Leverage Git for both development and operational needs; ●  Insider threat and forensics.
  • Examples of current security tools, which include but are not limited to:
    • AntiVirus (AV) – Sophos & FortiClient  
    • Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) – FortiEDR & Huntress
    • Zero Trust – GoTo Resolve & Fortinet ZTNA
    • Vulnerability Scanning Tools – Secureworks Taegis & TrendMicro Vision One  
    • Network Mapping Tools – Draw.io & Visio                                                 
    • IP Address Management (IPAM) – phpIPAM & Solarwinds

Skills:

  • Executing cybersecurity strategies and solutions;
  • Troubleshooting and operating a computer and various software packages;
  • Interfacing with internal or external parties regarding security policy standards violations, security controls failures, and incident response situations;
  • Working with diverse academic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of school district students and staff as well as at ESUs;
  • Using judgment and ingenuity in maintaining objectives and technical standards.

Abilities:

  • Effectively communicate technical issues to diverse audiences, both in writing and verbally;
  • Maintaining confidentiality;
  • Learn quickly and apply knowledge to new situations;
  • Handle sensitive and confidential matters, situations, and data;

  • Travel on-site to schools and ESUs as needed. Respond to on-site support within 12 hours or as directed by NCNE Cybersecurity Director.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Inside offices and throughout the different campus’ and district buildings.
  • Primary work areas are air-conditioned, but may travel to non-air conditioned buildings subject to extremes of temperature and humidity.
