Nebraska Educational Service Units

(ESU’s) were created as political subdivisions by the Nebraska Legislature in 1965. Since that time, some service areas have merged. The Nebraska Education Service Unit Coordinating Council (ESUCC) was created in statute by LB 603 in 2007 to coordinate the activation of Nebraska’s 17 ESUs and officially came into existence on July 1, 2008.
All Nebraska educational service units provide similar core services, as well as individualized services (defined as a Master Service Agreement), for schools within their county-defined area of service often in partnership with other ESUs, the Northeast Nebraska Networking Consortium, for example.
